Why didn't graphene batteries replace lithium batteries?

Graphene battery is considered to be one of the most potential materials in the future, but for now, its foam composition is greater than the actual application value. There are many factors hindering the popularization of this material. Mass production and cost are the main obstacles to popularization. Graphene batteries have a long way to go before they can completely replace lithium batteries in the short term.

Advantages of graphene battery:

The power storage capacity is three times that of the best products on the market. The specificenergy value of a lithium battery is 180wh/kg, while the specific energy of a graphene battery exceeds 600wh/kg.

An electricvehicle powered by this battery can travel up to 1,000 kilometers, and its charging time is less than 8 minutes.

Long service life. Its service life is four times that of traditional hydrogenated batteries and twice that of #lithiumbatteries.

Secondly, once an accident occurs, the energy wrapped in the lithium battery shell will be inaccessible and powerless by firefighters and extinguishing agents. They can only isolate the scene in the event of an accident and allow the accident battery to react by itself until the energy burns out.

Lightweight. The characteristics of graphene make the weight of the battery can be reduced to half of the traditional battery, which can improve the efficiency of the machine loaded with the battery.

Graphene has more advantages than traditional batteries. In terms of service life, its service life is twice that of lithium batteries and four times that of hydrogenated batteries.

Faster charging speed and more durable than lithium batteries at high temperatures.

Disadvantages of graphene batteries:

Graphene has not yet reached the practical stage, and there is still a long way to go before mass production.

These graphene batteries on the market are not pure graphene batteries, they just doped some graphene-related technologies on the basis of lithium batteries. Compared with the traditional lithium battery, the performance improvement it brings is only a little bit.

In addition, the cost of graphene is very high, and its manufacturing process is also very difficult. The manufacturing process of graphene batteries is still not mature enough. At present, it is only in the laboratory stage and it cannot reach the point of mass production.

Incompatible process characteristics. That is, the excessively large specific surface area of graphene will cause a lot of process problems in the processes of dispersion and homogenization of existing lithiumionbatteries. The surface properties of graphene are greatly affected by the chemical state, and there are many problems with batch stability, cycle life, etc. At present, it cannot meet the detailed requirements likelithium battery production.
